Our Story
We are a legacy Indian sweets brand that originated in the small town of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh famous for our signature Balushahi.
-
1945: The Humble Beginning
Bhagatji was established in 1945 by Late Shri Gangaprasad who opened a small sweet shop in Aggarwal Mandi Tatiri (Baghpat).
Fondly called ‘Bhagatji’ by people because of his humility and kind behaviour towards his customers, he had a special and unique way of preparing Balushahi with desi ghee that made it soft on the outside and crunchy on the inside. The shop still operates in the same place and receives regular visits from several loyal customers.
-
1976: Expanding the name
This special preparation was carried on as legacy by the next generation led by Devender Bhagatji who played a pivotal role in spreading the name and fame of Balushahi outside of Baghpat.
Being the eldest brother left to look after the business, he took over at the age of 16. From this point on, Bhagatji has continued to rise from the ground to where it is today.
-
2000: A major landmark
First shop outside of Tatiri was opened in Baghpat.
This shop went on to become the most important landmark in the journey of Bhagatji so much so that for many, Baghpat is now synonymous with Bhagatji.
-
2010: Division & Evolution
divided between Devender Bhagatji as Bhagatji Balushahiwale and the three brothers as Bhagatji Sweets
-
2025: A warm hug from the past
Led by Bhagatji’s granddaughter, the third generation brings a fresh vision to the legacy—breaking away from traditional mithai shop
interiors into a vintage-inspired space in Ghaziabad, that honors the brand's 1945 heritage.
-
Now: Vintage Roots, Digital Future
With 9 outlets and a growing digital presence, Bhagatji is entering a vibrant new era.
We’re blending tradition with modern science—meticulously studying the shelf life of our Balushahi and pouring our heart into innovate packaging for the brand so that a piece of Baghpat can reach every doorstep, at every occasion.
Our Vision
We aim to become a trusted brand in the Indian sweet and personalised gifting market carrying on 80+ years old legacy by transiting to experiential stores that doesn’t feel like another mithai shop. For us, mithai isn’t just a product. It’s how generations celebrate, connect, and remember. And that is a responsibility we take seriously.
